TMJ in Estevan
TMJ is the shorthand name for an important joint in your jaw which has a vital role in everything you do with your mouth from talking to chewing. Essentially it connects the jawbone to your skull, and when this joint is damaged it can cause a lot of problems.
A symptom of TMJ disorder is pain in the jaw area, difficulty using the jaw, or a clicking sound when the jaw is opened. An examination by your dentist (which may include X-rays) is needed to diagnose the disorder.
In lucky cases the issue will resolve itself over time if the jaw is rested. However, if you continue to experience jaw pain and problems, you may need to be prescribed medications. Education on how to properly relax your jaw or a bite appliance may also help ease the symptoms.
